If you are only making one overseas trip, go ahead and by a cheap or used suitcase that will last you one or two trips.  But if you are looking for something solid, something that will last years to come, and something that you will emotionally start to call “home”, then we recommend Samsonite products.

Definitely take into consideration the following pieces of advice when choosing luggage:

1. Weight of the bag.  Times have changed and you no longer have to have a heavy piece of luggage in order for it to be good quality.  Buying a light piece to start with allows you to pack heavier!
2. Color of the bag.  I recommend buying a suitcase that is the most outlandish color you can. If your piece of luggage sticks out from the rest, it will be easier to retrieve and less likely that it will be taken by accident or stolen.
